History of East Norwalk Blue

The health of Long Island Soiund is directly related to the continued efforts of many organizations to help monitor and maintain the Sound and its rivers and streams that run into it.  Part of the maintenance process is to assist boaters in removing sewage waste from the boats facility versus letting a boat dump the raw sewage directly into the Long Island Sound.  The State of Connecticut spearheads a program to assist boaters in their endeavors in proper removal of sewage.  This was formerly performed by Soundkeeper, Inc., another local non-for-profit, among its many other advocacy and monitoring activities.  But with the passing of the executive director, the organization is in the process of being liquidated and tranistioned to another not-for-profit.  East Norwalk Blue, Inc. (ENB) was formed to work with the State of Connecticut to manage and operate the pumpout program in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut.  The pumpout program will be its primary mission, but will also work with other local not-for-profits, foundations, and community organizations dedicated to the health of the Western Long Island Sound.  ENB will support monitoring activities to help identify polluters, provide advocacy in teaching the boating community best practices in boating cleanliness, facilitate island cleanups among the many islands in the western portions of the Sound, and assist local not-for-profits in their endeavors to achieve a swimmable and fishable Long Island Sound.  The overall goal in fulfilling its mission is natural resource  protection and environmental protection on the western Long Island Sound.
