Terry Backer Memorial Garden

ENB works with the Town of Stratford to administer the community garden at the Terry Backer Memorial Garden on Connors Lane in Stratford.  Terry Backer, longtime Soundkeeper and friend of the Board of Directors at ENB, started the Pumpout Program which ENB now operates along the North Shore of Long Island Sound.  Terry created The Farm at Stratford as a sustainability initiative to promote the growing of organic vegetables and fruit.  This initiative benefits the Sound and similar waterbodies by spreading knowledge of organic gardening methods which ultimately decreases polluted runoff of industrial fertilizers and pesticides into the Sound.  ENB now operates along more than 30 miles of coastline to protect resources from marine sewage, and the Farm has now over 100 community garden plots and nearly 100 fruit trees, all of which are organically maintained.
